The prices, side by side

As of July 2026, here is what each service charges a new subscriber in the UK:

Tier Netflix Disney+ Difference
Ad-supported £4.99 (Standard with Ads) £4.99 (Standard with Ads)
Standard £9.99 £8.99 Netflix +£1.00
Premium £18.99 £11.99 Netflix +£7.00

Disney+ is cheaper at Standard and dramatically cheaper at Premium. The Premium gap — £7.00/month — is the most significant price differential between two comparable streaming services in any market we track.

Why Netflix cut its UK Standard price

Netflix reduced its UK Standard plan from £10.99 to £9.99 in July 2026 — the first price cut in the service's history in any of our tracked markets. The timing is not coincidental: Disney+ Standard had reached £10.99, putting Netflix at parity. The £1 cut restores a sub-parity position.

This is competitive pricing rather than demand weakness: UK streaming penetration is high enough that the marginal subscriber at the Standard tier is directly comparison-shopping against Disney+.

The Premium gap problem for Netflix

At £18.99 vs £11.99, Netflix Premium costs 58% more than Disney+ Premium in the UK. Netflix Premium justifies this with four simultaneous streams and Ultra HD; Disney+ Premium also offers four streams and Ultra HD. For a household that will use both services simultaneously, the comparison favours Disney+.

Netflix's answer has historically been catalogue depth: it has more titles, including more locally-relevant UK content. Whether that depth is worth a £7 premium is a household-level call.

Ad-tier parity

Both services charge £4.99/month for their ad-supported tiers. This is a deliberate strategy: services compete on content and UX at the ad tier, not on price. Neither has moved the ad tier price in the UK in 2026.
